Not the only Watford fan who doesn’t live in Watford.
Being a lone hornet, out there in the vastness of space somewhere north of Hertfordshire, I’ve finally found something good about lockdown. I actually feel closer to my club, and more involved than ever. Somehow, during this time when nothing else matters except the things that really matter, I’ve found my connection to Watford FC coming into sharp focus. Yes, I am invested beyond my ability to control my deepest emotions. Yes, I am proud to support this club, and to feel a real part of it, regardless of (or maybe because of) the helter-skelter ride it offers its fans.
There are thousands of us ex-herts dotted around the country, and indeed the globe. I hope to be a yellow beacon shining a light for the golden boys at the fringes of our fanbase. Consider me an echo chamber, chanting back to the mother ship from the back of beyond, north of the Watford Gap.
